Wellington - Westpac Stadium
Also known as the "Cake Tin" due to its shape and silver-coloured external walls. Soccer
fans also sometimes refer to it as "The Ring of Fire".
Level Two
Nelson - Trafalgar Park
Named after the Battle of Trafalgar, this stadium has recently undergone a $5.9 million
upgrade.
Level Three
Christchurch - AMI Stadium
Formerly known as Jade Stadium, this stadium has hosted concerts by superbands such
as Bon Jovi, AC/DC and U2.
Level Four
Rotorua - Rotorua International Stadium
Originally built in 1911, this stadium has a capacity of 34,000 people. It is also known by
locals as "The Hangi Pit".
Level Five
Dunedin - Forsyth Barr Stadium
Soon to be the world's first fully enclosed grassed stadium, the Forsyth Barr Stadium is
still currently under construction with a planned opening date of August 2011.
Level Six
Hamilton - Waikato Stadium
Formerly known as Rugby Park, the Waikato Stadium is the site of the infamous 1981
Springbok Tour where the match was cancelled due to protesters.
Level Seven
Auckland - North Harbour Stadium
This stadium was opened in 1997 after nearly a decade of discussion, planning and
construction.
Level Eight
Whangarei - Okara Park
Despite only having a capacity for 30,000 people, around 40,000 people managed to
cram into this stadium for the Rugby Union final in 1979.
Level Nine
New Plymouth - Yarrow Stadium
Known by locals as "The Fish Bowl" and "The Bull Ring", Yarro Stadium has been named
the third best rugby stadium in the world. (New Zealand Rugby World magazine 2009)
Level Ten
Napier - McLean Park
Used for both cricket and rugby, this stadium's close proximity to the International Date
Line makes it the world's most easterly Test match ground.
Level Eleven
Palmerston North - Arena Manawatu
Formerly known as Arena 1, this stadium was the venue for the first ever Super 12 rugby
match in 1996, where the Wellington Hurricanes played the Auckland Blues.
Level Twelve
Invercargill - Rugby Park Stadium
This stadium was built on the site of Invercargill's former rugby venue (Homestead
Stadium) and has a capacity of 20,000.
Level Thirteen
Auckland - Eden Park
Probably the most famous stadium in New Zealand, Eden Park has been used as a sports
ground since around 1900.
